Become a regular Reader
If you want to improve your English you may have been advised to start reading a novel or read a newspaper everyday. And then you wonder that thats what you don't know.
How to keep a habit of reading everyday?
These are the following things which generally happen with a newbie reader:
1. Falls asleep as soon an uninteresting part comes up.
2. When there are not understandable/complex sentences a newbie loses interest.
3. Not enough content at home. The study books on the shelf, newspapers on table and moms magazines demotivate a newbie.
4. Lack of motivation.
How to solve these common issues?
1. Start with a small sized novel/story book. Starting with story books is also not very tiresome as the stories finish early and keep you entertained.
2. Don't rush through the sentences. If you get confused, that may be because of a complex sentence or few unknown words. Go ahead and open a dictionary and search. For complex sentences, slow down and read again.
Nowadays, with smartphones, word meanings are easily available. They have in built dictionary or when internet is activated google it out.
3. Stuff to read at home can be boring. Go to a nearby library or rent-a-book center or borrow from a friend. When borrowing/renting don't forget to mention that you need a beginners novel/book.
4. The habit of reading increases concentration. It utilizes the time to feed your brain. Try reading only one..just one newspaper article everyday. Let those articles be any of your favorite topic. Let it be bollywood gossip or sports or politics. After a month of regular reading start reading 3 articles a day.
For a novel, dedicate 15 mins everyday to reading that novel and keep a target to finish that novel in a month or two.
Try these methods. They work! Always try something interesting like a mystery novel. And eventually you get the knack of reading. Many times we like the author's style of writing, it intrigues us so much that we go for his/her other books too.
