Why I don't like Honey Singh anymore

The Anupama Chopra show 'The Front Row' must have been watched by lakhs of teenagers. It was Honey Singh's first interview out in the open on national TV. I watched it with eager eyes. He seemed humble, was well dressed and did not behave like a good-boy-gone-bad-star. I felt like I should attend his upcoming concert in my city in my ex-college. Thats when I misjudged a 'star' for a 'performer'. He is a talented star but not a performer.

It was 'Alegria' my ex-college cultural fest. Without a second thought all of my friends from college agreed to come to 'Yo Yo Honey Singh' concert. We entered the ground and it was a hell of a crowd. We had anticipated that much crowd and were ready to be sandwiched between crazy fans for Yo Yo. After all 'Blue eyes' had rocked everybody's music player since a month or so. 'Party all night' had given us a party feeling even when at home or work. His lyrics were easy and fun to learn, the next super-duper star was coming to our college and we could not miss it.

Stars and chief guests always come late and they are forgiven. They carry the aura that makes you forget how long you had been waiting and what amount of money you had spent. DJ Rink was supposed to entertain us from around 6:00 to 8:30 pm, followed by Yo Yo. Yo Yo turned up late. He showed up at 10:00. Really??? 10:00pm is the deadline for loud music across the country. After that limit residents from around the corner can complain and police can knock your door (Well, timing is seldom followed in India specially during politician's marriages, ganpati celebrations etc.). This event had gained a lot of attention from the police for security reasons and from the residents due to rising popularity. Moreover, the crowd was huge and there is always a probability of a 'rada'. The celebrity was huge too, thus increasing the importance of police and tight security. And since my college is surrounded by residential buildings, every fest a complaint is filed no matter what.

Since he was paid and was supposed to not to angry a crowd of 6000-7000 young energetic fans. He performed for approx 20 minutes on stage. He cheered up the crowd but the response was very 'thanda'. The crowd had been waiting for 2 hours and was well aware of the fact that its going to end in a few minutes as per 'loud sound' rules. All that excitement within us had emptied, we were restless, exhausted. He then asked the DJ to cue music. All that he did was to sing along with the already playing 'Honey Singh' track. It was a total douchebag way of performing.

So now he seemed like a total spoiled brat, an irresponsible celebrity. He annoyed his eager fans. Making us wait was still no big deal, but singing along with a sound track made him look less of a performer and more of a celebrity. They had a few girls as back dancers to get the feel, but was a failure act.

Yes, I know 'Blue eyes', 'Party all night', 'Brown rang..white chicks nahh..I dont like them anymore...' sounds fun, gives a party-like feeling. But no, I'd rather put on my home theater to a loud volume and groove rather than going to his concert. He seems pretty busy winning awards rather than winning hearts. Well, he is pretty good at making news too. We did not have any problem with that until you planned for a concert here and spoiled our night.

All I can suggest is before planing for a concert, please look out for reviews of earlier concerts. It will save your money, time and hopes for a good show.
